Announcement of 2/1 JEC Meeting

The next JEC meeting will be at 4:00 PM on Friday February 1st in Marvin Center room 411. We will be finalizing preparations for the special election and registration next week, receiving rules from PB & RHA regarding campaigning, interviewing candidates for staff officer positions, and reviewing several proposed clarifications to the rules.

A copy of the full agenda as well as the proposed rule clarifications are also available. We hope you can be in attendance. The minutes are now online as well.

Committee Passes Special Election and Campaign Rules

The Joint Election Committee, in an effort to ensure a friendly, fair election announced the adoption of two sets of rules to govern the upcoming special and general elections. Copies can be found below.



    Referendum on Student Fee

    Ref PosterThe Joint Elections Committee announces a referendum to the GW student body on the proposed student fee adjustment. The referred question is:

    Should the Student Fee applied to GW students beginning a program of study with the University in the Fall of 2008 and thereafter be increased from $1.00 to $1.50 per credit hour per semester to a maximum of fifteen credit hours?

    Student can vote online at my.gwu.edu between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM (EST) on Tuesday, February 5th, 2008. This change will go in affect for incoming students only. For more information visit www.gwelection.com or contact .

    JEC Chooses Election Dates

    The JEC announced today, that after weeks of careful consideration, and in coordination with its three charter organization, it has selected dates for this year’s special, general, and runoff election.

    For the special election on the student fee:

    • The postering period shall begin immediately following the passing of special election rules.
    • A special election shall take place on February 5th, voting for which shall occur between 9 AM and 9 PM.

    For the general election on Student Association, Program Board, and Marvin Center Governing Board:

    • The registration period shall begin on February 6th at 12 PM and shall end on February 11th at 12 PM.
    • A candidates’ meeting shall take place on February 12th at 7:30 PM.
    • The postering period shall begin on February 20th at 7 AM.
    • A general election which shall take place on February 27th and 28th, voting for which shall occur between 9 AM and 9 PM on those days.
    • Absentee ballot applications for General election shall be due to no later than 9 p.m. eastern time on February 25th.

    For the runoff election, if necessary:

    • A runoff election which shall take place, if necessary, on March 12th and 13th, voting for which shall occur between 9 AM and 9 PM on those days
    • If necessary, absentee ballot applications for the run off election shall be due to no later than 9 p.m. eastern time on March 10th.
