Barring any unforeseen circumstance, the committee will announce the results of the General Election, this Thursday February, 28th after 9 PM in the Grand Ballroom. Press coverage is welcome.
Campus Media, please let the committee know if you will require internet (for live blogging, etc), or have other technical needs and we will do our best to accommodate.
In response to heightened concerns of moral drift, the Joint Elections Committee announced today, the establishment of a swear jar. The committee hopes that the glass container - which serves as an homage to the transparency by which the election has been administered thus far - will not only encourage Committee members and candidates to watch their tongue while near the office, but also serve as a broader moral beacon for the election as a whole. The measure, passed by a unanimous vote in Saturday’s meeting establishes penalties ranging from twenty-five cents to a dollar depending on the obscenity evoked.
“THIS IS SUCH F****ING BULL***T!” Exclaimed Committee chairman Benjamin Balter, prior to the measure passing. Clarifying the statement later that evening he added, “we’ve been running a pretty tight ship all semester. That doesn’t mean we need to start talking like sailors.”
JEC Hosts Online General Election for all SA, PB, & MCGB Candidates
The Joint Elections Committee will host an online general election for all candidates seeking offices in the Student Association, Program Board, or Marvin Center Governing Board. Student can vote online between 9:00 AM (EST) on Wednesday, February 27th and 9:00 PM on Thursday, February 28th at www.gwelection.com or by logging directly into the my.gwu.edu or law.gwu.edu web portals and clicking the election link where appropriate.
This will be the second time the online vote tabulation system will be employed following the success of the special election held earlier this month. The race features a total of thirty-one register candidates including three candidates for Student Association President, three for Student Association Executive Vice President, two for Program Board Chair, two for Program Board Vice chair, four for Marvin Center Governing Board Governor, and eighteen for various Student Association Senate seats. Students may also run as “write-in” candidates.
Results will be announced at 9:00 PM in the Marvin Center Grand Ballroom on the evening of February 28th.
If you are submitting physical campaign material (ie posters, palm cards, etc), please submit a physical copy to the JEC office.
We cannot accept digital copies of such materials because as soon as one or more candidates e-mail posters or other high-res media to the account, we start getting quota warnings, and then cannot receive any other e-mail. (perhaps if elected, you can fix that). You’ve already got physical copies, so e-mailing it because you don’t want to make a trip to the marvin center is just lazy. Sorry.
If you have already submitted media digitally, you will not be penalized, but please turn in a physical copy as soon as possible. Candidates may continue to submit URLs and other non-physical campaign material via e-mail. Please feel free to contact the committee with any questions.
