Students at the George Washington University voted today to elect members of the Student Association Senate, Program Board, Marvin Center Governing Board, and the Student Association Executive Vice President. The election, which occurred entirely online this year, allowed some 4390 student’s voices to be heard, a dramatic increase over years past.
This marks the end of an intensive three-week campaign period for most candidates as they submit financial reports detailing their expenses, however, one race still remain undecided. The Student Association Presidential race did not yield a candidates that met the bylaws mandated 40% requirement. That seat will therefore be determined in a runoff election on March 12th and 13th.
“The election is not over yet - it’s still anyone’s game.” Commented Committee chair Benjamin Balter, “We’ve seen some heated races the past few weeks, and we anticipate that friendly competition to continue through the runoff.”
With the announcement of results, the Committee can now begin to act on complaints received against non-registered candidates who won a seat or are now eligible to participate in the runoff election. The charter mandates that results not be certified until such proceedings have been finalized. It is important to note that the results announced today by the Committee are preliminary and they can still be corrected prior to certification.
